The hardware of the keyboard dockThe keyboard dock is also built remarkably well and feels very solid. Again, though mostly plastic in construction it doesn't feel cheap. The keys themselves are almost full size, and it's reasonably good to type on, although they're a little spongy and feel a bit inaccurate at times. Occasionally I'd find letters being missed out in words although I know I pressed the key - clearly just not hard enough at times. Fitting the tablet into the dock requires a bit of force, and sometimes doesn't quite lock in fully but this may ease up with more use.The extra battery in the keyboard dock, plus the two USB ports makes it an essential addition to the tablet itself. 3. Android 3.1 (Honeycomb)>> The goodThe ability to have multiple home screens with widgets is great. For example, I've got the Hidden Colour calendar, e-mail widget, 9 app shortcuts, and 6 web page favourites on one home screen. The overall experience is excellent, and the ability to browse full websites (and play Angry Birds) using touch on a 10" screen is really cool, and actually pretty useful.Flash works well in the browser, and the ability to watch videos within pages on websites is excellent. The on screen keyboard provided by Asus is actually pretty good, with big letters and some form of Swype integration (see this also in the bad points).>> The badThe browser doesn't seem to like javascript very much, and will occasionally crash/force close with no warning on some websites. The browser is also buggy when faced with large amounts of javascript such as WYSIWYG web editors. We've tried other browsers in the market place (Firefox, Opera, Skyfire) and none of them are quite as well featured and useable as the stock browser. There's a long way to go with apps that are built specifically for Honeycomb. A lot of them still are expanded versions of apps designed for smartphone screens, and will sometimes force you to hold the tablet in portrait mode to do certain things. You can't...
http://www.hiddencolour.com/feed/read.php?itemid=117

The final day of racing is upon us

The final day of racing at Henley Royal Regatta has arrived, with finals between world-class crews, and an appearance from Sir Chris Hoy MBE who will be presenting the prizes. We've had some lovely weather, and great conditions for rowing, which has meant many course records have fallen.Over the last 5 days we've been providing the results services for the Regatta, with Facebook, Twitter, SMS and live results being sent out from Hidden CMS. We've also had two webcams set up, which auto-refresh so you can keep an eye on finish line as results come through. The makeshift office that's been our home:Back to normality next week.
http://www.hiddencolour.com/feed/read.php?itemid=116

Hidden Colour at Henley Royal Regatta

This week sees the Hidden Colour team winding our way down the country to Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, for the Henley Royal Regatta.Setup has already been done, which involved heaving some servers and networking equipment down to the temporary Regatta site, and then re-assembling the site-wide computer systems to keep the team running.During the Regatta event we'll be providing ICT and networking support, maintaining the website and most importantly updating our results system as the races happen. Our home for the 5 days of racing currently looks like this (the skeletal structure, not the boat...that would be odd): It should look a bit less draughty by the start of the week.
